"Reign of the Slurpasaurs"

Films: The Lost World (1960)

Alias: Giant Frilled Monitor, Maneater vines, Giant Rhinoceros Iguana, Giant Red-Knee Tarantulas, Giant Caiman, Giant Magma Lizard

Type: Ancient

Location: Jungle/Underground

Height/Weight: Ranges from that of a small dog to that of a small house.

Affiliation: Neutral

Summary: If 1925's visit to the Amazon was a pleasure cruise, this is a rickety trip to nowhere. Things aren't as simple as they used to be, and worse still, the dinosaurs have been traded in for giant-ass lizards and other things. It's been years and this turns out even LESS accurate than the old-age film?! What kind of world do we live in?!

History: Once again, the story of George E. Challenger chronicles his dream to prove the scientific community wrong when he says that there is a prehistoric land of relics somewhere in the Amazon. With some friends and colleagues to help him, he manages to get over to that plateau. But then a reptile smashes the copter. Now there's no escaping the horrors of the Lost World.

Notable Kills: Nothing special.

Final Fate: The vines prove to be just a bit irksome, the rhinoceros iguana just scares the team off, a tarantula gets shot, the frilled monitor and the giant caiman go hurdling off a cliffside after a long and brutal fight with each other, and the magma lizard gets showered in lava, going out with the eruption that follows. Oh, and a "Tyrannosaurus" (really, a poor gecko with horns glued onto it) egg is haphazardly brought along to London. Good luck with that, guys.

Powers/Abilities: The magma lizard can withstand extremely hot water.

Weakness: Anything conventional.

Scariness Factor: 3-Herpetophobes beware, because these gaudily decorated lizards are everywhere and they are in your face. The most intimidating is, of course, the magma lizard. The vines are interesting, but the tarantula is just a horrible green-screen effect.

Trivia: -Director Irwin Allen wanted to use stop-motion for the beasts, but he was hampered too much by budget restraints.

-It cost $100,000 for Allen to get the film rights.

Well, today indeed. No dinosaurs here! Just lizards.

The shadow of the Magma Lizard holds sway.

Woman, notice the elephant in the jungle?

Props to whoemever got those props onto that guy.

First meal of the day and he can barely swallow it. That lava did NOT agree with his throat.

When the Magma Lizard died out, this guy took over.

"Before you say it, NO. I am not an Iguanodon. Idiotic British folk."

Let me guess. They call this thing a Stegosaurus?

You have to admit. He's got a nice neck.
Funny. Some of these are falsehoods.

Turns out, the Magma Lizard had one last obstacle to face before his final fate.

The alpha lizard...reduced to sneaking in the trees.

Turns out, the Magma Lizard forgot to work out.

Tarantulas as tall AND green as trees!

The blurbs seem to favor killer plants.

Well, SOMEONE just got more mobile.

This...GECKO...is Tyrannosaurus Rex...no.
